    (ASTM A 380) The removal of heavy, tightly adherent oxide films resulting from hot-forming, heat-treatment, welding, and other high-temperature operations. Methods to accomplish descaling can be chemical descaling (pickling), acid pickling, or mechanical descaling that may include abrasive blasting, power brushing, sanding, grinding, and chipping.
